Swedish Public Television, SVT

Freelance Television Director at Swedish Public Television’s main channels SVT1, SVT2, SVT24 and streaming service. Initially at SVT’s regional base in Gothenburg and then recruited to its Stockholm headquarters. Director of news, current affairs, feature, sport and live rolling breaking news shows. Also assisting in implementing the Mosart newscast automation software.

Selection of public service programs directed:


  • Aktuellt 21: Directed the prime time evening debate newscast. Duties included planning, programming, directing and executing the 9pm broadcast.


  • Rapport 19.30 (Prime time evening newscast at 7.30pm): Directed Sweden’s most watched and award winning news bulletin, leading the show team, ensuring a professional on screen look and liaising with the editorial team.


  • Agenda: Directed this weekly flagship debate show, which was taped as live and then broadcast as part of the evening prime time line-up. Led a team of 25 people including lighting technicians, camera operators, vision mixer, graphics designer, audio technicians and more.


  • Gomorron Sverige (Good Morning Sweden) & Morgonstudion (The Morning Studio): Directed 4 hours of live national breakfast television with interviews, live reports, artists, debates and more.

2008 – 2015


Senior Television Director

TV4 / Nyhetsbolaget

Freelance Senior Television Director at Sweden’s largest private television network TV4. Directed TV4’s live output from its Stockholm headquarters across various platforms during regular news and sports programming, major special events and live rolling breaking news. Also served as a key member of the editorial team in the newsroom, managed the studio and gallery staff in the control room and used Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere and various graphics systems to create the visual look of the shows. 

 

Selection of commercial network programs directed:


  • Nyhetsmorgon (News morning): Directed Sweden’s highest rated breakfast show on television. Duties included pre-show planning, managing and executing the 4 hours of programming with live artists, news bulletins, cooking segments, debates, interviews and live reports from across the globe, ensuring a state of the art visual product with compelling graphics and the right camera angles.


  • TV4 Nyheterna 19 & 22 (Prime time evening newscasts at 7pm and 10pm): Directed the main flagship national newscasts. Responsible for preparing packages for air, managing graphics, rundowns and ensuring a compelling visual on screen look that enhanced the creative storytelling and reinforced the editorial requirements.


  • TV4 News: Part of the senior team that developed and launched Sweden’s only 24-hour news channel. Also live directed special financial and political programs, trained new technical staff and acted as layout and technical consultant in the construction of the new control room.


  • Sporten Söndag (Sunday Sports) and Club Calcio: Directed TV4’s weekly Sunday prime time sports show, as well as a weekly Italian football show with experts, guests and commentators.


  • Special Events: Live and Planning Director working alongside the Senior Executive Producer for major special events programming such as the Swedish royal engagement, the Swedish royal birth and the memorial events one year after the Breivik massacre in Norway.
